Biography:
Claudia Cattaneo – Western Business Columnist, National Post
Claudia Cattaneo is the Western Business Columnist at the National Post, where she covers business and policy issues shaping the Western Canadian economy. She’s written extensively about Canada’s pipeline battles, the struggles of the LNG sector, the impact of the oil price collapse on Alberta’s economy. She’s reported from as far away as Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Ecuador, the U.K., across the United States and the Arctic. She has also worked at the Calgary Herald, the Montreal Gazette and the Toronto Star. Born and raised in the Valle d’Aosta region of northern Italy, Claudia has an undergraduate degree in journalism from Ryerson Polytechnic University in Toronto and a Master of Science (Political Science) from the Université de Montréal. She is fluent in three languages and has served on the boards of Calgary Opera and of Hospice Calgary. Claudia has won numerous writing awards. For her coverage of the energy beat, she won a Best In Business award in 2017 from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, Canada, and was a finalist for the same award in both 2016 and 2015. She was also recognized by the National Newspaper Awards (citation of merit, business) for her 2015 coverage of the oil price collapse.
Andrew Coyne – National Columnist, Postmedia
A National Post original, Andrew Coyne’s journalism career has also included positions with Maclean’s, the Globe and Mail and the Southam newspaper chain. In addition, he has contributed to a wide range of other publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, National Review, Time and Saturday Night. Coyne is also a long-time member of the CBC’s popular At Issue panel on The National.
Diane Francis – Journalist, National Post & Financial Post
Diane Francis is a well-known journalist, author of 10 books, and Editor-at-Large at The National Post. She is Faculty at Singularity University in Mountain View California, a Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council in Washington DC, a Distinguished Professor at Ryerson University, and also on the boards of the Hudson Institute’s Kleptocracy Initiative, and the Canada-US Law Institute. She has been a columnist with the Financial Post since 1987.
Amanda Lang – Business Journalist & Author
Award-winning business journalist Amanda Lang has been covering business in North America for 20 years. Lang has been an anchor for Bloomberg Television Canada, as the host of Bloomberg North with Amanda Lang. Previously, Lang was CBC’s senior business correspondent, reporting for its flagship nightly news program, The National, and host of The Exchange with Amanda Lang, a daily business program airing on CBC News Network. For five years before that Lang hosted The Lang and O’Leary Exchange, with Kevin O’Leary. Prior to that the pair co-hosted SqueezePlay, on BNN, for 6 years.
Lang studied Architecture at the University of Manitoba, before becoming a journalist. Her first job in journalism was for the Globe and Mail, and subsequently Lang joined the Financial Post newspaper, where she became the paper’s New York correspondent. In New York she made the leap to television, where she first was part of the team that launched BNN and before long wound up at CNN as a reporter and anchor. Lang is also a best-selling author. “The Power of Why,” (HarperCollins, October 2012) explores the connection between curiosity and success. “The Beauty of Discomfort” (HarperCollins, April 2017) examines how difficult change can be, and set out strategies for how to achieve it.
Jean-François Perrault – Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist, Scotiabank
Jean-François Perrault joined Scotiabank on December 31, 2015 as Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist. He leads a team of Economists to support Scotiabank’s domestic and international business lines and clients from retail to capital markets, providing Scotiabank’s senior executives, business lines and customers with perspectives, insights and forecasts on economic, financial market and policy developments.
Prior to joining Scotiabank, Jean-François held prominent roles with the federal government, the Bank of Canada, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. His educational background includes Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees in Economics from the University of Ottawa.
Bruce Sellery – Personal Finance Expert on Cityline and CBC Radio
Bestselling Author of Moolala
Bruce Sellery a personal finance expert and the author of the Globe & Mail bestseller, “Moolala: Why smart people do dumb things with money (and what you can do about it)”.
He is a columnist for MoneySense and appears regularly on CBC Radio, Cityline and Breakfast Television. He was the host of Million Dollar Neighbourhood on the Oprah Winfrey Network and an anchor and New York Bureau Chief for CTV’s Business News Network.
Bruce leads the Financial Literacy Program at Carrot Rewards, an app that rewards users with points for improving their physical and financial health. He is a graduate of the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University and sits on its Advisory Board. He is also an alumnus of the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference.
