Ministry of Energy
Fair Hydro Plan Benefitting Local Businesses
Peterborough, ON – July 28, 2017
Ontario is supporting Dynacst in Peterborough with measures to help reduce its electricity bills.
Glenn Thibeault, Minister of Energy, made the announcement today at the local plant, highlighting the benefits many companies will see, as a result of recent expansions to the Industrial Conservation Initiative (ICI) under Ontario’s Fair Hydro Plan.
The ICI allows large electricity users to lower their electricity costs by up to one-third by reducing their electricity use during peak hours.
Starting July 1, 2017, Ontario has expanded this program to provide electricity bill reductions to more organizations and businesses across the province, including:
– All electricity consumers with average monthly peak demand greater than 1 megawatt (MW).
– Electricity consumers with an average monthly peak demand greater than 500 kilowatts (kW) and less than 1 MW in the manufacturing and greenhouse sectors.
The Fair Hydro Plan is reducing electricity costs for households in the province by 25 percent on average, with rates held to inflation for four years.
Reducing electricity costs is part of our plan to create jobs, grow our economy and help people in their everyday lives.
