Ministry of Community and Social Services
Province Helping People Access Services in Their Communities
Oshawa, ON – June 29, 2017
Ontario is helping to build a new facility in the Durham region that will provide a variety of services and supports for people under one roof.
Tracy MacCharles, MPP for Pickering-Scarborough East, Joe Dickson, MPP for Ajax-Pickering and Granville Anderson, MPP for Durham made the announcement on behalf of Minister of Community and Social Services, Dr. Helena Jaczek this afternoon at Catholic Family Services of Durham centre in Oshawa. The facility will move from its current aging building, into the new Hope Centre Durham Region, which will offer more community services in one space.
The building, which is expected to open by June 2018, will provide a variety of services, including support for survivors of domestic violence and their children, crisis support, intensive trauma counselling, sexual assault counselling and transitional housing support services.
This project is part of Ontario’s support for community hubs, which help people access multiple services under one roof within their communities.
Helping people easily access the community services they need is part of our plan to create jobs, grow our economy and help people in their everyday lives.
