Canadian Club – Lifeline Syria

May 12, 2017 By Clive Tonge

Lifeline Syria

2016 Canadians of the Year

Since 1992, the Canadian Club of Toronto has presented its Canadian of the Year Award to distinguish and recognise those whose efforts and example have improved the lives of others and inspired us as a nation. We proudly recognize Lifeline Syria as our 2016 Canadian of the Year for their inspiring work in assisting with private sponsorship and resettlement of Syrian refugees in Canada.

Lifeline Syria is a leading community engagement initiative, which was launched on June 17, 2015, in response to the ongoing humanitarian refugee crises in Syria, with its mission and goal being to assist groups to sponsor, welcome and resettle 1,000 Syrian refugees as permanent residents in Canada within two years. Lifeline Syria has already achieved and surpassed this goal.

This celebration will feature a panel discussion consisting of many diverse perspectives – including Leen Al Zaibak of Lifeline Syria, Canadian sponsors and Syrian newcomers. They will share their unique experiences and offer insights on how Canada can build on its internationally recognised role as being one of the leaders in this substantial humanitarian effort.
