Quality Care Close to Home for Residents of Vaughan
Ontario Breaks Ground on State-of-the-Art Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital
Vaughan, ON – Oct 25, 2016
Today, construction is beginning on a new hospital — the first in the city of Vaughan — that will provide advanced quality care services to more than 500,000 people.
Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will help patients by providing modern surgical services and operating rooms, advanced diagnostic imaging and other specialized services. The hospital will have 342 beds on opening day. The majority of rooms for patients in acute care will be private.
Health care professionals at Mackenzie Health will use the most advanced smart technology available to enhance the patient experience. With an integrated picture of a patient’s medical condition, patients will be connected with support beyond the new hospital’s walls — including Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital, outpatient clinics, and community physicians — to support a patient’s continuity of care.
This is one of about 35 major hospital projects across the province under construction or in various stages of planning.
Investing in new hospitals is part of our plan to create jobs, grow our economy and help people in their everyday lives.
“Today’s hospital groundbreaking is the result of years of hard work and dedication on the part of many local advocates. This incredible achievement, made possible by a provincial investment of up to $1.3 billion, will support families in Vaughan for generations to come. I am grateful to everyone who has helped make our hospital a reality and I am particularly thankful to Vaughan residents who have patiently waited for this transformational day to arrive.” Steven Del Duca, MPP for Vaughan
“Today marks a truly momentous occasion for the community of Vaughan and York Region as we celebrate the official groundbreaking and start of construction for the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. Our new hospital will be the first smart hospital in Canada designed through the eyes of the patient. Mackenzie Health’s smart hospital vision will feature fully integrated smart technology, including systems and medical devices that can speak to one another. The health care team will be enabled with actionable information in real time that enhances the delivery of efficient, high quality, patient-centred care.” Altaf Stationwala, President and CEO, Mackenzie Health
