Province Enhancing Cultural and Community Services for Families in Lawrence Heights

Toronto, ON – April 30, 2018

Ontario is enhancing local services and programs offered in the Lawrence Heights and Lawrence-Allen area of Toronto, with a new community hub to support the area’s diverse community.

Mike Colle, MPP Eglinton-Lawrence on behalf of Bob Chiarelli, Minister of Infrastructure, announced today that the province is supporting the creation of the Lawrence Heights Community Centre.

A future community cultural hub in the Lawrence Heights and Lawrence-Allen area will help build an inclusive community by bringing together community services and health-care providers under one roof, as well as foster a healthy community where people can work, learn and play. The hub will provide a public space for events and celebrations, and support sports, recreation, health and development. It would feature:

A pool/aquatic area
Double gymnasium with running track
Multi-purpose rooms (weight room, dance room)
Administration and office space.

Building inclusive communities and creating community hubs is part of the government’s plan to support care, create opportunity and make life more affordable during this period of rapid economic change. The plan includes free prescription drugs for everyone under 25, and 65 or over, through the biggest expansion of medicare in a generation, free tuition for hundreds of thousands of students, a higher minimum wage and better working conditions, and free preschool child care from 2 ½ to kindergarten.
