Stephen S. Poloz, Governor of the Bank of Canada, gives his last public address of the year, discussing some of the issues that keep him awake at night.
Biography:
Stephen S. Poloz is Governor of the Bank of Canada, appointed in June 2013 for a seven-year term.
Governor Poloz spent 14 years at the Bank early in his career before moving to the private sector. He spent four years at BCA Research as managing editor of its flagship publication, The International Bank Credit Analyst.
Mr. Poloz joined Export Development Canada, the country’s trade finance corporation, in 1999 as Vice-President and Chief Economist. He spent two years as Senior Vice-President, Financing, with responsibility for all of EDC’s lending programs. He became EDC’s President and CEO in 2011, a position he held until he returned to the Bank of Canada as Governor in 2013.
Governor Poloz is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bank and a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). He currently chairs both the BIS Audit Committee and the Consultative Council for the Americas.
