Ontario Providing New Supportive Housing for Hamilton Seniors

2,000 More Beds and Spaces Available Across Province This Year

Ontario is improving access to care for seniors transitioning out of hospital with new supportive housing units in Hamilton – part of over 2,000 additional beds and spaces being made available across the province this year.

John Fraser, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, was at St. Joseph’s Home Care in Hamilton to announce support for the new seniors’ supportive housing units.

This partnership with St. Joseph’s will provide 40 seniors with rent as well as home and community care supports, including assisted living services, so that they can receive the right care in an environment suited to their needs. The seniors benefitting from the project will live in residential units at First Place Hamilton where they will have access to a range of programs, including wellness and recreation activities.

On Monday, Ontario announced funding for over 2,000 additional beds and spaces across the province. This investment includes 57 additional beds at Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph’s Health Care, and 6 transitional care spaces in Hamilton, to provide access to care and reduce wait times, whether in hospital, at home or in the community.
