New Hospital Expansion Will Boost Services and Lower Wait Times in Halton Region
Milton, ON – Sep 29, 2017
Ontario is helping people in Halton Region get the health care they need faster with a new three-storey patient care building that more than doubles the number of inpatient beds at Milton District Hospital (MDH).
Premier Kathleen Wynne was in Milton to celebrate the opening of the expansion. The new centre will offer a full range of clinical services for this rapidly growing community, including new emergency, surgery and inpatient beds, as well as more capacity for critical care, maternal-newborn care and diagnostic imaging. The expansion of MDH will lower wait times and provide better access to high-quality care, closer to home.
This expansion has added 330,000 square feet of new patient-centred space at MDH, one of three hospitals managed by Halton Healthcare Services. Patients will benefit from:
As many as 66 new inpatient beds, with more private rooms to protect patients from infection and provide privacy
Improved diagnostic services with the addition of a hospital-funded magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine
A special-care nursery with capacity for eight bassinets, which will offer extra care and closer monitoring for babies in the maternal newborn unit and allow for the delivery of babies born up to six weeks early, including twins.
Ontario is increasing access to care, reducing wait times and improving the patient experience through its Patients First Action Plan for Health Care and OHIP+: Children and Youth Pharmacare — protecting health care today and into the future.
