Pickering man excited to play golf in every province after winning $30 million LOTTO 649 jackpot
Toronto, ON – May 17, 2017
William ‘Bud’ Perry of Pickering loves to play golf but admits his game could use a little work. ‘Bud’ – as he prefers to be called, is the big winner of another game however, after claiming the $30 Million LOTTO 6/49 jackpot from the Wednesday May 10, 2017 draw.
“I play golf with a great bunch of friends and would love to take my game to the best courses in every single province and territory. It might not improve my swing but it’ll be a lot of fun,” joked Bud while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. “It’s easier for me to win the lottery than get a hole in one!”
Bud checked his LOTTO 649 ticket online, had a friend double check the numbers then the two men went to the store to be absolutely sure. “The retailer could hardly catch her breath,” said Bud. “She was so happy for me and very excited. When I finally spoke with OLG on the phone, they asked me how I was feeling and I teased – I’m fine thanks. I’m rich!”
Bud, now 77 is a retired crane operator who has helped build everything from skyscrapers to highways. “I’ve actually retired a couple of times,” he shared. “I got bored after my first retirement at age 62 so took a job as a crane operator at a diamond mine in the Northwest Territories. That lasted six years until I finally called it quits for good. This lottery win will definitely keep me busy.”
Bud is a man of many talents – including inventor. “I have several prototypes all connected to the construction industry that I am excited to further develop and then market,” he said. “I now have the money to see my projects come to fruition.”
Above all though, Bud is a family man. “Family means everything to me. My wife was my best friend and my children and grandchildren are my life. I am not the mushy type but my family knows that they are my number one priority. It fills me with joy to be able to take care of them – and to also take care of generations of children that I will probably never meet,” he smiled.
“You know, I never played LOTTO 6/49 for the win. I always played for the dream,” said Bud. “It’s going to take me a little time to really wrap my head around all that has just happened.”
Bud’s winning ticket was purchased at Whites Kitchen Food Fair on Bayly Street in Pickering.
